Marie Curie Post-Doctoral Fellowship

One of the less known tracks in Horizon 2020 is the Marie Curie Individual Fellowship which researchers can try to exploit to strengthen their research groups by recruiting an outstanding newly-minted Ph.D. to do a post-doc in their lab. The application is a joint undertaking between the candidate for the post-doc, and the researcher (and their university) who want to host them. If approved the grant provides a generous stipend to the post-doc, and €800 a month for research expenses during the 2 years covered by the program.

Marie Curie Global Fellowship

The goal of the Marie Curie Global Fellowship is to allow researchers from countries participating in Horizon 2020 to be exposed to unique breakthroughs in science and technology that are transpiring in non-European countries. The Fellowship covers a period of between 1 – 2 years in those institutions where such state-of-the-art research is being developed and a mandatory 1 year “return phase” in order to “transfer” what you have learned to a Horizon 2020 country. This, too, is a joint application -  by the researcher and the institution that will host him/her abroad, and the institution that will host them upon their return to a Horizon 2020 country.

Applications for both types of Fellowships are quite demanding  and those most familiar with them agree that at least 3 months is required to  polish them to competitive form. (The 3 month count begins once you have  an agreement of a host researcher/institution to develop the application  with you.)

The next deadline for submissions is 14 September 2017.
