The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development - Nitzan 2017-2018 - Extension of Deadline
The Chief Scientist of the Israel Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has issued a call related to healthy food in collaboration with the food industry: Nitzan – The Noah's Ark Program.
Please note that the deadline has been extended by a month.
Topics: - Development of a personalized diet
- Development of agricultural raw materials
- Adapting the cacao tree to growing in Israel
- Hummus: methods for raising crops and improving their quality
- Development of natural sweeteners
- Development of flavors from agricultural crop plants to reduce sodium
- Reducing the level of fats, especially saturated, using alternatives from agricultural crop plants
- Herbal supplements for medicinal indications from agricultural crops whose safety is known and is not in doubt

USAID Middle East Regional Cooperation Program (MERC) – Pre Proposals
MERC funds are available for peer-reviewed collaborative applied research and technology development proposals for projects between Israel and its Arab neighbors. Most projects are within the broad areas of the natural, physical and social sciences, and engineering. Investigators are also encouraged to integrate social science approaches, economics, and the use of information technology when appropriate.
Note – a hard copy must be made, which must arrive at the Washington offices by the actual deadline.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) – Electronics Resurgence Initiative
DARPA has published several calls in the “ERI Page 3 Investments" field. The name of this trilogy of calls relates to Page 3 of Gordon Moore’s 1965 publication "Cramming more components onto integrated circuits” where he distributes the challenge among 3 pillars: Design, Architecture and Materials. The goal of the ERI is to more constructively enmesh the technological needs and capabilities of the defense enterprise with the commercial and manufacturing realities of the electronics industry.

The Gilbert Family Foundation: Gene-Targeting Strategies (Letter of Intent)
The announcement addresses the underlying genetic abnormalities in neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) which, if understand, could eradicate the disease using the 'Team Science Awards' mechanism. Proposals will be accepted only if there is collaborative research amongst investigators with experience in gene-targeting strategies in or outside the field of NF1 (Teams may consist of investigators from the same institution, different institutions, and may be international).

Keeping Europeans safe and more resilient in a crisis
Keeping Europeans safe and more resilient in a crisis – an article published in the European Commission website presenting the DARWIN project.
DARWIN is a Horizon 2020 project whose task is to develop European resilience management guidelines. The DARWIN project is developing and testing European resilience management guidelines together with crisis and resilience practitioners. The objective is to make Europe a safer and more resilient place for its citizens. When ready, the DARWIN guidelines are expected to improve response to crises (both man-made such as cyber-attacks and natural such as earthquakes) affecting critical infra and social structures.
