Horizon 2020 - Funding Opportunities in Food Security for 2019

Agriculture and food systems, forestry, and the marine and bio-based sectors are at the very heart of the challenges our planet will face in the years to come: adapting to and mitigating climate change, ensuring food security, safeguarding the natural resource base, promoting alternatives to fossil-based economies and sustainably using marine resources while protecting the oceans.

The Horizon 2020 Work Programme for Societal Challenge 2 “Food Security, Sustainable Agriculture and Forestry, Marine, Maritime and Inland Water Research and the Bioeconomy” includes more than 30 topics for 2019. More than €450 million of funding is planned to be spent on their implementation.

The topics are grouped into 3 calls:
  1. Sustainable Food Security (food systems, links between ecosystems, food production, food chain, consumer health and wellbeing).
  2. Blue Growth (sustainably harvesting potential resources from seas, oceans and inland waters).
  3. Rural Renaissance (enhancing the natural, social, cultural and economic potential of rural areas).
Have a look at the presentations the EC made in June for more details.
