The BSF is happy to inform that 3 new NSF divisions are expected to join the NSF-BSF cooperation:
1. Mathematical Sciences (including Statistics)
2. Astronomical Sciences (including Astrophysics)
3. Atmospheric an Geospace Sciences
The cooperation with Israel will include all the core programs of these divisions.
If awarded a grant, the U.S. researcher will be funded by the NSF, while the Israeli researcher will be funded by the BSF, using funds it receives for this purpose from the Israel Council of Higher Education. These new programs will not be “special programs” with NSF funds being set aside for them, rather, the joint U.S.-Israeli applications will compete with the regular applications to the NSF in these fields, and will draw from the same pot of money. This means that there is no effective limit on the success rates of the joint U.S.-Israeli applications, and occasionally, in the existing programs, the success rate of the joint applications reaches 100%.
The NSF grants to the U.S. researchers are expected to be standard, while grants by the BSF to the Israelis, are expected to be
larger than classical BSF grants
, and equivalent in size to ISF grants.
